Rider 1 - Christopher Venter (SA) (Minister of Tourism - Rider, Expedition Leader, Cook, Admin, Etc)

Chris is an avid vintage scooter collector as well as a professional development and training chef. He works on international contracts specializing in making catering operations, in remote area's, more efficient (staff training, supply chain management, implementation of new operating systems, new menu's and that sort of thing)
Chris's daughter Blaze was treated with a life saving Trans-positioning of the Great Arteries operation at the Red Cross Children's Hospital in 1994 when she was a baby - and he has had a good relationship with the hospital since then. Blaze is 16 now (2010) and as fit and healthy as a fiddle - Thanks to the wonderful corrective surgery done by the hospital, Blaze leads a normal healthy life today. (Yes - she also rides scooters)
Having conceived and planned the original trip (The Greater Trek), Chris brings to the team his management skills, his dedication and his hard ass'd determination to succeed, no matter what. His extensive experience in general management and problem solving coupled with his ability to meet and accept changes will be a strong asset to the group.

Rider 2 - Hein Gerber (SA) (Minister of Transport - Rider/Mechanic - Wine thief)
This crazy fellow hails from the town of Wellington in the winelands, near Cape Town. He is (luckily) an expert Scooter mechanic. Hein and his father have a massive collection of scooters, which includes some really nice early and rare Vespa models. When Hein was in matric and wanted his dad to get him a bike, his father said that he should choose between a Vespa and a Harley - and that they could not afford the Harley - There started Hein's love for Vespa scooters and the scooter lifestyle.
Hein has worked as a wine farm manager in the past - Today he is a mobile mechanic that specializes in the fixing of farm equipment. He will be an invaluable member of the team. Hein will be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of the scooters as well as dealing with the spare parts and the general management of our fuel and oil, etc.

Rider 3 - Dave Manor (USA) (Minister of Foreign "Affairs" - Rider/Fixer/Etc - Decoy in case of problems)
Dave, an American guy, hails from Orlando, Florida. He has extensive experience traveling around Southern Africa. Dave spent most of his life working as a SCUBA diving instructor before traveling to Africa, where he spend a few years as a partner in a Cape Town backpackers lodge. After selling the business, Dave packed a container full of local of arts & crafts, shipped it home and has been selling the contents since then. If Dave is not at an auction, he is either sitting at his computer working on eBay or in the water somewhere…
Dave is addicted to travel (& adventure) and will certainly bring an interesting dynamic to the team. This interesting fellow did most of his travels (purchasing) around Africa in an old beat up Peugeot 504 car with trailer. He is certainly an expert is finding a good deal and getting out of tricky situations.

Rider 4 - Ian Chamberlain (SA) (Minister of 'Social Welfare' - Rider/Fixer/Etc - Emergency pilot)

Ian hails from a small town situated along the Garden Route in South Africa, called Mossel Bay. He will be 26 years old during the trip and will have just completed his commercial pilot's license. Ian is always looking for the next big adventure, having already sailed a small 3m dingy from Mossel Bay to Cape Town a few years ago, to help a friend raise funds for he's daughter’s eye operation. Ian believes that you only have one life and intends to live his to the fullest - & always have adventures.
Ian will make sure that the other riders are kept entertained as he always has a good joke or two up his sleeve. Ian rides a Vespa p150x scooter and is totally addicted to the scootering way of life. Back in 2008 Ian did a solo scooter trip from Cape Town to Mossel Bay on his 1981 Vespa - He took all the back roads & ended up doing almost 900km, whilst having a fantastic 3 day journey. This was the start of his passion and love for scooter touring.
